Alexander McGregor - Margate 41 Club

ALEXANDER MURRAY McGREGOR. (17.11.43 – 7.10.14.)

Murray McGregor was a great supporter of the Round Table & 41 Club movements and for many years attended our A.G.M.s around the country with his wife Pam.Murray was a very well-known Round Tabler and 41 Club Member around the South East and very proud of his association with both the Margate Clubs. Born in Glasgow he graduated in Medicine and met his beloved Pam. After graduation he took a short term commission in the British Army serving in Singapore, Germany and finally during the ‘troubles’ in Belfast. After life in the Army he moved to Westgate-on-Sea where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a caring, learned and very popular G.P. He was Chairman of Margate Round Table in 1983/84 and then Chairman of Margate 41 Club firstly in 1987/88 and then more recently in 1999/00. During these years his presentation of a regular authentic ‘Burns Night’ evening were greatly enjoyed by the members, wives and many guests. He was a regular attender at the Association A.G.M.s as they moved around the country and always came back with a host of stories from his latest visitation. His interest and support for the R.N.L.I. never wavered over a very long period. Despite its being a large Church in Minster-in-Thanet it was nevertheless absolutely packed for his Service of Remembrance which perhaps showed just what a lovely character Murray McGregor had been throughout his life.
