David Burr - Rugby Webb Ellis 41 Club

David William Burr 23rd November 1955 to 6th February 2022

Rugby Webb Ellis 1176 Round Table and 41 Club

Rugby Webb Ellis 41 Club are sad to announce the passing of David Burr after a short but brave battle with cancer.

He spent his early years living an idyllic childhood in Sale with a love of military history and enjoyed building Airfix models of tanks, ships and planes which he used to recreate WW2 battles - a lifelong interest.

He also became a dedicated fan of James Bond at a young age eventually owning an Aston Martin and being given a call sign “007” for his work with the Immigration Service.

In 1972 he moved to Clifton-upon Dunsmore with the family and attended Lawrence Sheriff Grammar School in the sixth form.

He began his Home Office career in 1978 being promoted up the ranks and moving on to work in the Intelligence Unit in the field of Forgery where he became an acknowledged expert. He was the “Guest Speaker” at one of our own Table nights and brought in a batch of fake passports - we had to find the errors which, in the main, we failed to do.

David joined Rugby Webb Ellis RT in the eighties and was very involved in the various fund raising activities and on moving to 41 Club showed the same commitment .

Although never an active sportsman he was an avid cricket follower and enjoyed playing golf as a vehicle to maintain long standing friendships with old school friends.

He loved Cuban cigars, fine Brandy, and handmade shoes.

He is survived by his partner Judith and sister Clare who both cared for him with so much love and support during his final days.

David will be missed by all that knew him.
