DOUGLAS WILLIAM ROBERT GIBBINS

Born 2nd February 1938.Died 23rd December 2014.

Doug was born in Walthamstow, but later moved to Surrey, then qualified as an architect, eventually running his own practice. He was also a Freeman of the City of London, belonging to the Stonemasons Livery Company. He loved all sports, and remained a Spurs supporter all his life.

Doug joined Kingston Hundrede RT 745 in 1973, always regretting he left it so late. He had a ready and great wit, and became Chairman in 1977. He was an avid visitor to other clubs, and eventually became a member of Kingston 41 Club, Sutton 41 Club and the first Englishman to join Cognac 41 Club, near to where he and his wife Penny lived for some years, where he was President for 3 consecutive years. He was also a founder member of the Riff Raff Club.

He became a Freemason in 1976, and was an accomplished ritualist, gaining great honours locally and nationally in the Craft and various other Orders. He was a founder member of Table Fellowship Lodge, the only “Round Table” Masonic Lodge in Surrey (one of 41 in the UK), and Table Fellowship Chapter.

After a 3 year battle against prostate cancer, Doug died at Princess Alice Hospice, Esher, on 23rd December. His funeral on 15th January was well attended by family and friends.

He left behind wife Penny (well known in Ladies Circle and Tangent), 3 children, 2 step-children and several grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all of us.RIP.
