Terence (Terry) Scrimger Braid - Rushen 41 Club

Terry Braid founding member and first Chairman of Rushen Round Table 1072 died on Sunday 5th September 2021 after a short illness. He was 80 years old and left a son, Giles.

Although born in Wales to Northern Irish parents,Terry grew up in Bangor and Armagh, Northern Ireland moving to the Isle of Man in the mid 60’s to take up employment in the hospitality sector. Terry was a staunch Ireland rugby supporter but on occasions if Ireland got beaten he reverted to “the land of his birth”. Terry loved to sing and was often heard at 41 Club, St Patricks nights singing “The Boys from the County Armagh”

Terry was a Tabler to the core, having gone on after leaving Table, to be a member and Past Chairman of both Rushen 41 Club and Isle of Man 41 Club. Terry was one of the instigators to form Rushen Round Table having encouraged Ramsey and Peel RT 722 and Douglas RT 456 to sponsor its formation. Terry as the first Chairman was presented with the Charter by John Holt, Chairman Area 8 on 16th February 1973 at the Castlemona Hotel, Douglas, Isle of Man and which Terry said was one of the proudest moments in his life.

During his 9 years in Rushen RT he helped form the 72 Club (which was an annual meeting of all Tables ending in 72),organise the Millennium Ball (celebrating 1000 years of Independent Government on the Isle of Man) and organising numerous Forties Nights raising monies for a number of Charities.

Terry was a larger than life character and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
