Roger Gullen - Cheshunt 41 Club

Roger Gullen

29th February 1952 - 7th September 2023

Over many decades Roger Gullen was an active and influential member of Waltham Abbey and Cheshunt Round Table and Cheshunt 41 Club, holding Officer roles in both, including Chairman. He was always resourceful and enthusiastic with a practical and common sense approach to issues and new ideas to keep interest in 41 Club. Everything was approached with calm pragmatism and good humour. His last short and sudden tragic battle with cancer, 25 years after he fought off the same disease, displayed those same qualities of character.

Other organisations also benefitted from Roger’s involvement. He owned a 1953 Citroen Traction Avant, better recognised as the “Maigret” car, and consequently was a member of the Citroen Traction Owners Club and the Letchworth Garden City Classic and Vintage Car Club. Flying model aircraft was another interest and Roger belonged to the Walkern Flying Club. He was also a member of the Walkern History Society and was on the Walkern Parish Council, becoming a member of the twinning association, Friends of Lanvallay.

Roger had a wide range of interests and all who came across him will have taken away something positive from having met him. All will miss his friendship, inventiveness and his ability to solve problems or “know a man who can”. In all his endeavours over the years Roger was supported by his wife Mary, who he leaves together with children Claire and Peter and 3 grandchildren.

He will continue in our memories for the laughter we had with him and the help and guidance he gave so readily.

Roger was part of a unique fellowship of family and friends and will be sadly missed by us all
