Book Of Remembrances

Nick Stone - Droitwich 41 Club

It is with sadness that Droitwich Spa 41 Club reports the sudden death of Nick Stone whilst on holiday in Jordan with his wife Anne. He was 64 years old.

Nick was initially a member of Halesowen Round Table from 1982before transferring to Droitwich in 1990.

His transfer fostered many fun events and challenges between Droitwich and Halesowen which are still regaled to this day.

Nick was a stalward in Droitwich Round table (and 41 Club from 1998), acting for many years as treasurer and organising events such as ‘pub pedal’ and an international trip to Dusseldorf in 2020.

He was Table President in 2000 and became 41 Club Chairman in 2016/17.

Nick was a keen walker and along with several members of our 41 Club, volunteered as a Warden for one of the Millennium Way circular walks.

Nick did have a mischievous side – one unlucky Chairman about to start his AGM speech found that his notes had gone AWOL - Nick had ‘nicked’ them. At our Christmas dinner, Nick took a liking to another members’ tie and insisted on a swap – for years, he repeatedly refused the offer to change back!

After a long career with Barclays bank in 2006 Nick commenced full time contract work with Alliance Medical, National Grid and finally the Blood and Donor Service.

Nick retired completely in 2014 and continued to be very active with Church groups, 41 Club, a local investment club, challenging walks and looking after the family garden and allotment.

He was also a skilled DIYer and carried out a multitude of DIY tasks at home as well as for his 3 grown up children, Alex, Chloe and Lydia. Nick and Anne volunteered for charity work both at home and abroad including Ukraine, Mexico and Uganda where Nick put his practical and computer skills to great use.

Nick will be very much missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts remain with Anne and the family.
