Peter Mockett - Ongar 41 Club

Peter Mockett 1940-2020

Peter was a gentleman of the old school. He was always well dressed, friendly to all, and with a very British taste in dry humour. He gave himself unstintingly to a number of causes including the oldest wooden church in the world, Grinstead, Essex where he was church warden, being a trustee of an Ongar charity: He was a director of Bentley Golf Club and a staunch supporter of the Vets section and past Vets Captain. His golf wasn’t always stellar but his competiveness and his company were 100%. He always loved sailing and sailed across the Atlantic to ferry a yacht to the Caribbean.

Peter was a devoted husband to Pauline and father to Richard and Andrew who both live in North America and who will have to watch his funeral on the internet. He loved supporting any grandchild with any sport they followed.

Peter was a director of esteemed Romford based Estate agents Hilbery Chaplin and spent over 50 years there rising from Trainee negotiator to Managing Director. He often reminded me that Estate Agents had to be Chartered Surveyors first when he started and he nurtured any number of junior staff over the years

Above all Peter was great company, on the golf course, in business or at Round Table or 41 club events. He was kind, non judgemental and very humorous. We will all miss him and remember him fondly.

Yours with Rusty hinges
