Roger Mitchell - Wrekin 41 Club

Wrekin 41 Club are sad to announce the passing of our long-standing member Roger Mitchell at the age of 80. Roger was an enthusiastic sportsman in his youth playing university football, and he was also a keen musician, meeting his future wife Pat at a musical event in Bromsgrove. After studying as a Chartered Secretary his early career took a change of direction, and he and Pat moved to Shropshire when he set up his own legal practice in Wellington. He was in practice for many years, in the latter years as a consultant, until his full retirement. Always fully involved within his community, he undertook many official roles in Wrekin Round Table and Wrekin 41 Club being Chairman of the latter in 1984 with a continued spell as Secretary from 2009 until late 2018. He was also a founder member of The Rotary Club of The Wrekin serving as President in 1991-1992 and again in 2014-2015. He was a committed member of the Shrewsbury School Community Choir. Unfortunately Roger was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2013. He fought his illness with typical fortitude, dignity, and no little degree of spirit and humour until the battle was ultimately lost on 18 February.

He is survived by his wife Pat, son Julian and daughter in law Andrea, and grandchildren Molly and Jessica.
