Barrie Skipper - Algarve 41 Club

BARRIE SKIPPER

1939-2023

ALGARVE 41 CLUB

Barrie was born in Rochdale on 9th June 1939 but on retiring moved to the Algarve. Although never a member of Round Table he had a friend who was and had come highly recommended to join the ex-pats in the Portuguese 41 Club. He was welcomed as an honorary member and in 2014 became their Chairman.

Barrie was always concerned to do things for the community and none more so for those in the village where he has lived for the past 23 years, having raised funds to purchase 12 fire suits, fire boots, lone man down alarms and bicycles for the Bombeiros who are largely reliant on donations for equipment. With his wife, Pat, Barrie hosted several Harvest Festival events to provide food for needy charities.

In recognition of this they were recently presented with gifts from the Presidents of Silves, Messines and Amorosa Camaras (Councils) which included a set of commemorative medals.

After living in a renovated Quinta for 13 years they purchased an old cork factory in conjunction with a friend and together they built 3 eco-friendly dwellings, where Barrie was to live out the rest of his life.

He passed away on 27th July after a long illness and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

May he rest in peace
